Design Team throwdown for Quoth the Raven

So this month I have got 2 pieces entered with 2 different teams. They are however 2 VERY different pieces. This piece is for the Quoth the Raven Team and my team mates Black Dragon and Ike have produced stunning pieces so make sure you go and have a look at their work.

For my piece I have done a bit of mixed media onto some cardboard, below you will find a timelapse video of me making this piece.  You will also find another video which shows where I got my inspiration from for this. I did a search online for old and grey as that is the theme our team picked after winning last month and I came across this song, I found it very funny and knew this was what I was going to base my piece on.

I started with painting the cardboard then added some texture with stenciling, stamping with bubble wrap and adding some scraps of fabric and paper. I then added the digi stamps that I had already coloured in with promarkers. The digi's I used are JustInkLined's sugar plump fairy and Ikesart Ooh La La . I printed off the lyrics from the song and cut out the ones I wanted to use.

Don't forget we needs you to come along and vote for your favourite so head to the design team throwdown challenge blog and see all the other entries

Old and Grey Smeared Ink Design team throwdown Team

This is my piece for August Design team throwdown for the Smeared Ink team for any of you that don't know what the design team throwdown is head over to the DTTD blog to find out all of the details.

I am lucky enough to be playing in the team with 2 very talented people Lady B and Terra, please have a look at their blogs to see all the fabulous details on their projects.

The theme for this challenge is Old and Grey which was the theme picked by the winning team last month (just so happened to be the team I playing for whoop whoop!) I wanted to make something with a more pretty feel to it so went with a mixed media 12" x 12" box canvas.

I started with the canvas, I covered it in different shades of grey making sure that it had some texture to it. I then printed out my image which is the Man digi from the Specimen Jar Set which I coloured in with pencils and pastels. I added the image to the canvas once it was dried then got a piece of My Minds Eye scrapbook paper and tore it and attached it to the canvas so it looks like it was ripped to show the image. To give the canvas more detail I got to do my favourite part which was go through all my stash to find things that will make it look pretty :D I have used many different pieces of trim, flowers and beads I can't remember were all of them are from as they have been in my box of bits for a long time! The final touch was to add some pearls to the top (it took me several attempts to get them on in a way I liked)

Don't forget to come along to the design team throwdown blog and see all the other entries and vote for your favourite.

I've used an image from our sponsor which is Sassy Studio Designs.

August Smeared and Smudged Blog hop

This is my piece for the smeared and smudged forum members blog hop. Below is the blog roll for you to see all the other fab work from some of the other members.

Terra
Shell
Maureen
Jane
Evil Edna
Kay
Madeleine
Kapree
Ike
Lisa

It will come as no surprise I am sure that I once again left this piece until the very last moment. I seem to have lost all track of what day we are on so completely forgot about doing a piece for this hop :( Luckily I did make some blank journal pages last week so when I got up this morning I used one of those pages to make my piece.

To make the page I opened up a cereal box and painted over it all with a white acrylic paint on both sides. When each side had dried completely I grabbed a selection of acrylic paints and got to work covering each side, I used a blend of greens, blues which I added in several layers until it was all completely covered. When it was all dry I cut up the box to make a couple of pages and some tags, the scrap bits will be kept for making collages.

This morning when I started on my piece for today I started by adding some more paint to the page, I added some gold then painted a piece of burlap with some blue paint which I then used to stamp over the background, I let that dry off some and then I painted a lighter blue onto some bubble wrap and stamped that onto the page too. At this point I was happy with the look of the background. Every so often I will spend a while just colouring in stamps so I always have a supply ready to be used in projects, so I had a hunt to see which one I wanted to use, I decided on the Mer with Pet digi stamp which can be found int he smeared ink store here.

I added some fibres and the image then using a black marker I wrote on the sentiment at the top and coloured around it with a white faber castell aqua pencil. To finish it all off I added a few little dew drops.

I do hope you will be able to go and look at all the other blogs today as I know there will be amazing art work on them all.

Burnt offerings

This fortnight at Smudgy Antics we want you to set things alight (insert mad crazy woman with flame thrower)!!!!!
Ok so maybe not quite so dramatic we don't really want you set fire to things and if you do decide to play with fire then be safe and preferable do it outside with a bucket of water on standby. We want you to show us your take on the theme burnt offerings.

For my piece I have played around with an ATC sized canvas. To start with I used a blow torch to burn a hole in the center of the canvas (at this point I wasn't actually sure what I was going to make more just enjoying setting fire to things LOL) . I then rubbed over the canvas with some copper acrylic paint leaving the bit right next to the hole so the burnt edges could still be seen. It was at this point I decided to have the raven peeking out from the hole. I stamped the raven onto a piece of scrap white paper and put it to one side. I then used one of the background stamps from the Quoth the Raven rubber set to stamp all over the canvas. I stuck the raven to the back so he could be seen through the hole. I covered the canvas in some black flower trim I have got and then attached 2 dice as the feet. At this point I decided it needed something else so I stamped out the skull from the same rubber set and used a flame to add colour to it, unfortunately I got a bit close and set fire to it...however I decided that I quite liked it so used it anyway.

The stamps I used can be found in the smeared ink rubber club here

Christmas in August

It seems very strange doing a Christmassy post when I am sitting here feeling like I am melting!

I really enjoyed colouring in this image and was pretty pleased with the end results too. I colouring in the image with promarkers and spectrum noirs. The papers I used were a printed one from one of the Debbi Moore Christmas cd's and a piece of Kanban card stock. The piece with snowflakes was a piece of cereal box that had some tin foil stuck to it then run through the embosser, I then rubbed over it with some black paint and I wanted a more grungy look instead of the shiny foil.

The image that I used is An Emo Christmas from Delicious Doodles.

I do hope you will come and join us with this challenge.

What's your horrorscope?

These new Horrorscope  images from Delicious Doodles really are fabulous! When I saw the challenge over at Haunted Design House I knew I had to colour some in and join in :)

I have made a few pages in my journal/scrapbook, I started the book because I felt sometimes I was making things like cards that were then getting ruined as they were sat in a cupboard so I thought if I can make a book I can always keep everything together and safe.

I am still working on more pages which I will share when they are done but these are the 1st 3

Click on the images below to be taken to the store

Musically Challenged

Confession time, this is another challenge blog that I mean to join in with every time and always seem to run out of time. There is only a few days left this time but at least I've made it!

The song to use for inspiration this time is Christina Aguilera's your Body.

To make my tag I stamped out of the gorjuss girls and coloured her with Faber Castell pencils. I then used the splatter rubber stamp from the Inky Dreams set from smeared ink, I stamped onto the tag in a blue ink, I did want to use a lighter ink to make the blue in the video but my inks are rather limited. I then used some stickers from my stash, I think I might have won them (terrible memory here) The stickers I used for Body are from my friend Susan. The trim  is from my stash.

Please head over to the musically challenged blog to join in with the challenge.

Last day of Smudgefest

I have loved taking part in Smudgefest again this year and was really happy to see that today was a freebie challenge. This is such a fabulous freebie and if you want to play along today and get your own freebie then head over to smudgy antics blog to snag it for yourself.

I printed off the image and coloured it with my new pencils then sat looking at it, I had no idea what to do. After a while my youngest son came over to have a look what I was doing, I told him I didn't know what to make and he said "Well obviously it needs to be a bookmark" Silly me for not seeing that straight away LOL

Well I couldn't disappoint him so I made a bookmark, all the papers were from my offcuts box.

Gothic Fairy Birthday card

I forgot to blog this when I made it a few days ago. I made this card when I got back from my holiday, I had coloured the stamp while I was away and I have to say it is one that I just LOVE to sit and colour.

The image if from Delicious Doodles and is called Gothic Fairy. I have coloured her with promarkers then made a very simple background for her to sit on as she is so beautiful she doesn't need much adding.

The papers I used are offcuts from my stash, I set myself a goal of using up all of my scraps rather than keep cutting into new sheets and so far it's going really well.

Smudgefest day 6

Oh nooo!! I am terrible with sketches, I find them so hard to use for some reason. This is my interpretation of the sketch which can be found on the smudgy antics blog.

I have used papers from My Minds Eye the lost and found collection, a piece of gold card from my stash and the blue paper with barbed wire on it also from My Minds Eye but I can't remember what collection it is.
The image is from smeared ink and is called Dead Dancer Pointing and is one of my all time favourite images from anywhere and it can be found here. The image was coloured in with Promarkers.

The lace was some a won in a Tag challenge.

Left of Center use some metal

I'm late again, This is the downside to not being at work and there being no school, I am totally losing track of what day it is!

This is my DT piece for the new challenge at Left of Center which is either LOC or use metal. Our sponsor for this challenge is floppy latte and we were lucky enough to get to pick an image to use.  The image I have used is called scaredy cat

I put the image into Craft artist and layered if over some backing paper and used the shadow effect on it before printing. I then hand cut a tag from a piece of Tim Holtz kraft resist card and inked over it with some distress inks. The Halloween border is from a graphic 45 stack and all the other bits are from my stash.

I do hope you will come and join us with this challenge

Quoth the Rave Tic Tac Poe

This month the challenge over at Quoth the Raven is Tic Tac Poe using the grid below, I was away on holiday when the new challenge went live so I'm a little late in getting mine made and posted.

I decided to go with the middle row for my piece, I used an 8" x 8" canvas to create my Poe piece.
this is the list of materials I used

  • Simply betty stamp
  • canvas paper
  • acrylic paints from DecoArt in the following colours, DAO1 Snow(titanium) White, DAO64 Burnt Umber, DAO72 Venetian gold
  • Reeves Modeling paste
  • Fabric scrap
  • Tim Holtz grungeboard key and hinges and letters(already painted and recycled from a previous project)
  • Brads
  • Glossy accents
  • Big shot
  • Tim Holtz/Sizzix embossing folders
  • Paint brushes and painting knife
  • Tim Holtz Distress markers and ink
  • Faber castell watercolour pencils

  1. Add some molding paste and draw pretty patterns in it.
  2. Paint with white acrylic paint
  3. paint over with burnt umber acrylic paint
  4. print image onto canvas paper
  5. colour image with watercolour pencils and distress ink/markers
  6. rip out image and ink edges
  7. use finger to rub over the canvas with the gold paint
  8. run grungeboard through big shot in embossing folders
  9. paint grungeboard with burnt umber
  10. rub over with venetian gold
  11. cover brads with venetian gold
  12. Stick down the fabric
  13. Stick on the image and the grungeboard
  14. Add letters

See it's all very simple :)

Smudgefest day 5

Today the challenge is to make something using a flowing medium.

I've made 2 pieces for today's piece, the first piece is a canvas board which I sprayed all over with glimmer mist and then added some spray paint. I left that out in the sun to dry while I cut a piece of cellophane which I then stamped on with stamps from the heart rubber set from smeared ink.

When the canvas was dry I laid the cellophane onto it and stuck it down on the back.

The second piece I made was this mask.

For this I used the glimmer mists again letting each bit dry before adding the next layer so the colours didn't mix. When the glimmer mist was dry I sprayed some brass spray paint while the mask was upright so it dripped down. I then used one of the rubber stamp hearts to stamp over the eyes.

Day 4 of Smudgefest

Today the smudge fest challenge is to create an ATC with a twist. For my piece I've kept it really simple and only used one small stamp.

To start with I printed off the smeared ink circle stamp from the circus procession set then coloured it with mustard seed and worn lipstick distress markers. I then cut it out with a circle die then I cut out a pointy edged circle from some mirri board. I attached the 2 pieces together with a small brad. The back card is a piece of orange Bazzill card stock, the next layer is a piece of photo paper that I covered with different alcohol inks. The sentiment I have typed and printed then sprayed with glimmer mist. I attached the circles to the photo paper then drew on the stalk and leaves as well as the dots on the top. The sentiment was stuck to the bottom with glossy accents.

Because I raised the photo paper part the flower in the middle now twists around.

Dreamer

I am really loving having some extra time to be able to create. This piece I made on a canvas, I started by spraying the canvas all over with shimmer mists. The stamped image is from smeared ink and is called Succubus 5. I coloured her in with promarkers and spectrum noir pens. The words I typed and printed then sprayed with some green glimmer mist.

I stuck everything onto the canvas with glossy accents then used a black soot distress marker to go around the edge of the words.

I'd like to enter this into the following challenges

Smudgefest day 3

Today is a colour challenge, I am not really very good at these as my screen never shows the colours properly so I have made a piece that matches as close to the colours as I think they are.

The colours I have used on this are Dark blue, brown, duck egg blue and a greeny yellow. when colouring the image I used distress inks and promarkers, I used the yellow and brown and watered it down lots to create a skin tone. The image was printed onto canvas and the inks applied with a paint brush. The tag I hand cut from a piece of dark blue cardstock and the embellishments were all in my stash.

The image I used is this one from smeared ink, click on it to go to the store

Smudgefest day 2

I am so glad I was up early to make this piece, after some rather nasty dental work mid morning I've not really been feeling up to much all day.

For this challenge we have to use our favourite scary smeared ink stamp. I have picked the same image I used in yesterdays challenge. The reason I find this skull from the Morte rubber set so scary is it looks like it's ripping it's way out of something, it's creepy but in a cool way. To make this over grown tag I first cut the tag then I stamped out the skull twice, on one of them I cut the skull out of the middle and on the other I trimmed around it a little. I then coloured the top layer with distress inks then lightly rubbed over the skull with a lighter ink. I stamped out the skull background onto a piece of pearl card and cut it out. I layered the pieces together so the skull looks like it is trying to get through the hole. The Washi tape is some I made using the smeared ink Jack rubber set and the blood smears are from the prints rubber set.

fussy cut with Smudgy Antics

This fortnights challenge is all about fussy cutting. Fussy cutting isn't something I do all that often as I'm not exactly steady handed, I have a habit of cutting myself with knives and I can't use small scissors so all my fussy cutting is done with a massive pair of scissors. I decided to do a mixed media canvas, I stuck on all the bits that I wanted to use on the canvas then prepped it by painting it with white acrylic paint once it was dry I sprayed it with some homemade purple shimmer mist. The image girl 3 from the hidden digi set is the one I decided to use and I coloured her in with promarkers before adding her to the canvas.

day one of Smudgefest

Hi everyone I am so glad to be able to play along with smudgefest again this year however I have to say this challenge has got me a little stumped.

We at Smeared Ink are so excited to be hosting our third annual week-long challenge extravaganza called SmudgeFest! Each morning from now until Sunday we will post a different challenge theme. Participants will have until midnight to post their project for that day's challenge. The daily winner will be drawn by random number and announced the next morning along with the new challenge theme. Daily prizes will vary, and the only way to know what they are is to join us each day.

The fun thing about it is, at the end of the seven days we will be drawing for an awesome grand prize! In order to qualify, participants must have posted entries in all seven challenges and must have used at least one Smeared Ink stamp (rubber or digi) on each creation. The grand prize will consist of a $200 Smeared Ink SHOPPING SPREE valid for anything in our online shop! (Grand Prize amount not valid on Rubber Club orders) We look forward to this week long fun fest, and we hope you can play along!!!

 Here are the rules:

*Each morning from August 5th through 11th, a new challenge will be posted. It will contain that day's theme and prize information.

*To participate, you must make a project that fits the theme and add it to that day's post using the Inlinkz linky tool. It must be linked by midnight of the same day. Your link must go straight to the post on your blog containing your project, not your blog home page.

*Your project can be anything (card, scrapbook page, altered or 3-d item, etc) as long as it is handmade and stamped somewhere with either a rubber or digital stamp. All digital projects are allowed if it fits the theme. Feel free to think outside the box and have fun with your project! We are all about looking at things differently and look forward to the variety of projects we are sure to see.

*You must use AT LEAST 1 Smeared Ink image on your project to qualify for the grand prize drawing. You are allowed to use anything else that you like. If you just want to play along and aren't worried about qualifying for the grand prize, you do not have to include a Smeared Ink image.

*The daily winner will be chosen by random number and revealed later the next day in a separate post (not the daily theme post).

*At the end of the week, all participants who submitted entries for all seven days and used a Smeared Ink image on all their entries will be entered for the Grand Prize Drawing of a $200 shopping spree from Smeared Ink. The winner will be chosen by random number and announced on Monday, August 12th.
We've got a new release coming up so I hope you are all excited for this chance to win loads of our images!!
So, are you ready to play? Welcome to Day 1 of SmudgeFest!!

The Challenge:
MANIC MONDAY
Create a bi-polar project that showcases two opposites.

In my head the theme Bi Polor means things can be totally opposite from each other and you can't get any more opposite than black and white. The stamp I used is from the Rick st Dennis Morte rubber set from Smeared ink I stamped the image twice, once with black into onto white card stock and again with white ink onto black card stock. I then layered the image onto the opposite colour card. I then added some black and white ribbon to make a hanging.
